The South Carolina Environmental Law Project (SCELP) is now accepting applications for a Legal Assistant with at least three years of experience in the field. Applicants with paralegal education or certification are encouraged to apply, but all applicants possessing the requisite qualifications will be considered.
SCELP was founded in 1987 to meetthe critical need for specialized non-profit legal services for environmentalprotection in South Carolina. As a non-profit environmental law firm, we useour legal expertise to protect land, water and communities across SouthCarolina. Our team of nine attorneys are active in courts across SouthCarolina, building upon SCELP’s long track record of successful legal advocacy.
SCELP is seeking a capable andorganized legal assistant to support our team of environmental attorneyslocated in four offices across the state. This position is ideal for amid-level legal professional.
The legal assistant will supportour attorneys by organizing and maintaining legal files, assisting with courtfilings, drafting basic legal documents, and preparing case documents.Responsibilities include scheduling depositions, managing deadlines, and coordinatingcommunication between offices.
The legal assistant will work incoordination with our attorneys, ensuring all necessary information forhearings, litigation, mediation, and other proceedings are meticulouslyprepared and organized. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail area must.
The right candidate will also possessthe ability to take a proactive role in organizational operations by leading onefficient data management, project management, and electronic filing systems.SCELP’s work is multifaceted and often involves work outside of the courtroom.This position will lead in tracking and reporting on the full programmatic workof the organization.
This position requiresindependence in handling complex tasks.
· Three or more years of legal experience.
· Understanding of South Carolina court and court filing systems.
· Interest in environmental protection and justice.
· Strong organizational skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Pro, along with general technological proficiency.
· Ability to work independently, while maintaining consistent and transparent communication with a team and leadership.
· Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
