‘An update is necessary’: Georgetown County working on county’s first unified development ordinance

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCSC) — Georgetown County is in the process of seeking public input on its first draft of their unified development ordinance.

County leaders say the new unified development ordinance would replace zoning rules that are decades out of date, some dating back to the 1970’s.

The set of regulations would govern where various land uses are allowed and create rules for setbacks, parking, curb cuts and connections between developments. Planning leaders say the goal is to make the development process more predictable and straightforward for all involved, while also ensuring protections.
