Lawsuit launched to prevent filling of tidal Gadsden Creek as part of WestEdge development

CHARLESTON (WCIV) — A lawsuit has been launched to protect a portion of Charleston's Gadsden Creek, the small tidal creek that flows from Brittlebank Park through the historic Gadsden Green community into Charleston's Westside neighborhood.

A local group, Friends of Gadsden Creek, says it has filed a court challenge to a permit and certifications authorize the elimination of 3.9 acres of Gadsden Creek as part of Charleston's pending WestEdge development.

The permit and certifications were granted by the S.C. Dept. of Health and Environmental Control in 2020.
