Murrells Inlet dredging could provide an economic boost, but county wants to know environmental cost

MURRELLS INLET — A project hailed as a potential economic boost for Georgetown County has also raised concerns about unintended environmental harm.

Local officials plan to collect additional surveys of Murrells Inlet before federal and state agencies issue a dredging permit for the project, according to the county.

"We're not fully against the project," attorney Monica Whalen of the S.C. Environmental Law Project (SCELP) told The Post and Courier. "We would just like to see less impact on the salt marsh, oysters and particular creeks."
