Summerville group sues county over plans to build gas station in conservation district

SUMMMERVILLE — A local nonprofit has filed a lawsuit against Dorchester County after the council voted to allow the building of a gas station in an environmentally sensitive area near the Ashley River.

The area, an intersection called Cooks Crossroads, is located at the intersection of Ashley River and Bacons Bridge Road. It falls into the conservation zoning district.

The purpose of the district is to protect sensitive lands from development through tools like wetland buffers and conservation easements.
