Mac Bennett retired after 12 years as President and Chief Executive Officer of United Way of the Midlands in 2017. He has remained active by consulting with Cyberwoven a regional website design and development company and Capital Development Services a fundraising and executive search firm. Mac is serving as the Interim CEO of the SC Technical College System Foundation.

Before joining the team at United Way, Mac served as Executive Director of the Central Carolina Community Foundation in Columbia for 14 years. From 1980 to 1991, Mac held a variety of positions with the University of South Carolina.

Mac is a founding director of TogetherSC (formerly SCANPO) and served as the first chairman of the organization’s Board of Directors. Some of the boards he has served on include TogetherSC, the Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority (CMRTA), Transitions Homeless Center, The Nord Family Foundation and Central Carolina Community Foundation. Mac is currently a member of the Critical and Rural Lands Committee for Beaufort County.

Mac holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and management from the University of South Carolina. He and Leslie moved to Beaufort in 2018, and they wonder why they waited so long.

They have two adult children, Evans who resides in Charleston with his wife Sarah Margaret, and McCauley who lives in Bluffton with her husband Trent and their daughter Bennett.
